Universals / CVD help

Postby MOmo » Sun Apr 17, 2011 10:52 pm

So with out the boring details, I retro-fit my Associated TC4 to run the smaller more common axles/wheel nuts.

The HPI universals fit perfect on the front, however the rear are just a tad too short.

And the other universals I have are too long. I need to know if anyone has any thoughts on a universal that is slightly longer than 6x70mm and still uses the standard bearing.

Anyone got any thoughts?

can u measure the distance between the centrepoint of the dogbone pin, to the centrepoint of the big 'hole'

this is the standard way of measuring, once you know what u have
u can then looksee what others are available to suit your need

The 6x70mm CVDs are for the Sprint 2. There are some others for the Sprint 1 that are 72mm and use the same bearings. HPI 86043 Universal Dogbones Sprint RTR

For even longer ones you can try the ones for the Nitro RS4 I think.
Also you could check the A514 RS4 UNIV. DOGBONES (REAR WIDE). Should be around 80mm if I am not mistaken. Pleanty of these on ebay...
Finally I am waiting for some MIP1127 CVDs for the RS4 that are similar to the 72004 PURPLE ALUMINUM MIP CVDS REAR (RS4 PRO 2). I will measure as soon as I receive them and post the length!
The A514 and the 72004 use two 5x11 bearings but you could use the RS4 rear hubs with them. I think it is almost the same as the Sprint 2.

Yea, its strange cause the 200mm are too long and 190 are too short.

I'll try and measure the distance that I need. My biggest fear is not finding the right axle stub size and resorting to the huge 3/16 nuts that Asoc. use.
