Tire Mods?

Postby steveplatinum » Tue Jun 03, 2014 10:21 am

Does anyone do any modifications to their tires to affect the grip? I have heard of (and tried) wrapping black electrical/friction tape around the tire. I have also heard of putting notches in the front tires to give more bite. I thought of using that sandpaper grip tape, like on skate boards, but that would scratch the s%@# out of the floor lol.. Any thoughts or experiments tried and succeeded or failed?

I failed trying to use cheap stuff from r2hobbies. Get a selection of quality tires from Yokomo, StreetJam etc. for different surfaces.

Differently to Stalwart, I have a collection of low cost tires from R2Hobbies (Diamond Cut ones) which I prefer over any other tire for CS Drifting, but I also have very hard tires from Broadtech.hk and very soft tires from RCMart.com for RWD, but because of nationals rules we are only allowed to use HPI T Drifts which has its ups and downs... more downs though....

There are also few local manufactures of agricultural class 6 irrigation pipes in South Africa, so we tend to make our own tires for practice most of the time.

I went ahead and made a video of the problem I'm having. Any suggestions for tires or anything else would be appreciated, but I definitely don't think the R31-RWD looks right driving, although it has the wheels and tires that came with the chassis mounted. The weight is balanced slightly heavier on the front. It just seems to be too slow and the TC4 seems too fast.

I think these look great! I'm gonna try a set of their softest tires and see what happens.
