Yokomo BD5 Front Battery Conversion CS Set Up / Video Clip

Postby Katsumi » Thu Jan 20, 2011 12:25 pm

Hi guys

I introduced to my BD5 front Battery conversion.
This idea come from my blog friend.
He did his Cyclone TC like Ulz did.
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1062

I feel like so stable and easy to make a big CS with less overdrive set up.

I convert from BD5P, "P" mean straight pack battery chassis.
If convert from BD5W less parts need it

I will post how to make this mod later

How to build Front Battery Conversion My BD5.

My BD5P over view
Image

Steering lock BD5 normal.
Image

I wanted to make fit any type of super gear, that way I converted it in BD5W
Because the motor mount of BD5, you must have attach super gear of BD5.
Image

I installed a steering linkage of DRB in BD5.
An upper deck higher by 3mm
And I used DRB Steering block.
Image

I changed DRB front lower A arm.
The bottom of the pick is BD5. A shock position is out.
A tire and a shock hit it when they locked a steering fully.
Image

I changed a motor mount of BD5W and put a spacer of 3mm below
I can make fit big super gear and motor was higher then roll center going up.
I put a spacer of 3mm in the upper part of the bulkhead of the rear.
Image

I attached a plate under a battery holder of DRB and put it in velcro in a chassis.
Battery holder was higher and making a space of a drive belt.
I set a DRB 14T idler pulley in a chassis.
Image

I set DRB FCD1.5 in the rear, It was 56T belt fit well.
Image

Here is listed I used parts bellow.

Those parts not necessary if convert from BD5W
1x BD-003W - BD5W World Spec Upper Deck
1x BD-302LW - BD5W World Spec Center Bulkhead
1x BD-302SW - BD5W World Spec Center Bulkhead Support

1x BD-640W - BD5W World Spec Front One Way
1x DRB-FCD15 - Full Counter Solid Axle Set 1.5 for DRB

Other
1x DRB-018 - DRB Rear Shock Tower
( I want to make a same position of body post and more shock position. )

Thanks

Don't you think more realistic ?
The camber when a wheel is straight is -3 degrees and full lock is +4 degree.

Few Japanese people began this setup in Japan.

I love the more realistic !

On the video I can see that you found a great setup - seems to handle very sweet your chassis, special at transistions!
Great job, I like the mod with the DRB steering links ;)
Thanks for sharing

Does the positive caster effect make the driving any different?

I edit, you ask me positive camber right?
The set up is different diving style and makes more difficult, because it a car makes easy to going steer side.
You have to change car set up and your hand.

I want to try more realistic RC Drifting.
I try to make a video clip edit more realistic RC Car Drifting next time.

Totally agree with the set-up as it gives a more realistic feel, i am using the same type of set-up right now for my VDF, will post as a new topic for fellow VDF as a reference
