destroyed cups of axle and one way

Postby snowrider » Thu Jan 19, 2012 3:19 am

hi
I have a problem with destroying the cups.
on average every 1-2 months I have to replace the cups, as axle shafts cut the pins with large cavities,
while driving, vibrating wheels and the chassis.

I tried to used thermo-insulation on the pin, but this solution is unstable.

I will ask you for advice, how to solve this problem

i modify my cups so that i can put those plastic bone blade things on. then that lasts for a pretty long time.

you have a few choices:
1) get outdrives that utilize plastic cvd blades. generally they will be outdrives with the slots cut bigger. you then use a plastic C shaped piece on your cvd bone to reduce wear.

2) get hardened steel outdrives (if possible)

3) get new outdrives and heat treat/harden and temper them. this involves heating up the outdrive until it is red/orange hot and dunking it in oil. I don't know the entire process but you can do a google search on it and see what's the best procedure for you to follow

at the beginning I decided to do it, as in Xray.

I cut larger gaps in the cup by dremel. to put on axle pin cusion from Xray T3.
so it looks now, will test today

more importantly, the solution is used so far works

You can also buy inserts dedicated to the TA05, I found them here:

Yokomo and AE blades work as well. HPI/HB might not work, the pins are bigger.

is that Eagle spool?

afaik genuine Tamiya spool doesn't wear that bad, also it has 2pr of slots to use not just 1

whereas my HPI cups do end up looking like those sooner than expected :(

solid axle is the Eagle, but the cup is the original from Tamiya, who was in the set VDF

some ppl like SpecR make springsteel cups... it's not just the metallurgical hardness but also resilience

those plastic bone protector (bone blades) is what im talkin about. mine have lasted for a very long time now. definitely cheaper than buying new spools
