Spirant 180SX, ABC Hobby 180SX

Postby ridinvintage » Tue Dec 11, 2012 6:46 pm

Well I picked this body up after I painted a R2 yokomo clone to throw a demi-works engine bay in it but then realized after I put all the time and money into it that it wasn't going to sit low enough on my chassis. So I went and sold both a small loss, only lost about $15 total, so I figured why not get another 180 but a good one this time.

I wanted to do a simple but aggressive paint scheme so I browsed the web until I stumbled across this amazing piece of art know as the Spirant 180SX more can be seen over at http://www.speedhunters.com/2009/07/car_spotlight_gt_gt_spirant_180sx/?fb_action_ids=544634143900&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=timeline_og&action_object_map=%7B%22544634143900%22%3A10150750272653153%7D&action_type_map=%7B%22544634143900%22%3A%22og.likes%22%7D&action_ref_map=%5B%5D

Masking these windows sure was fun, very frustrating getting these perfectly centered since I did not want to use any stickers for the windows. It came with alternative masks for just that purpose.

Then sprayed the black.

That's all for today

ahhh so you're joseph! lol "mike peezee" here. I'll be starting my abc 180 after i finish my yok 180. Ran into the same issue with those engine bays but figured out a different solution. This should look sick!

Got some more work done through out the day.

Sprayed the main color.
Image

Sprayed the tails.
Image

Put all the wrap up decals on the inside where they are supposed to go, unlike some bodies I have seen around various forums. Also added a silver pin strip down the sides and across the front.
Image

Tails turned out pretty good.
Image

I still have a bunch of stuff to do to this so I am maybe 60-75% done with this baby.

Yup that's me Mike thanks again for the tips on paint. I ended up using wrap-up for the rear orange marker lights instead of paint or marker. Tamiya Clear Red came out clear but not so smooth, I think I may have needed to thin it a bit but it looks very good none the less.

No I don't what were you wanting to know? I have everything that was cut off still if you want to see what it would have looked like. I got mine in like 3 days or less, and I'm on the east coast.

Well today I decided to work on the interior instead of the light buckets like I was planning.

Got the driver all painted.
Image

Decided to add some red stitching to the shifter boot.
Image

Put on my drivers head and wrapped the dash, side panels and rear deck with some carbon vinyl. I know it's not to scale but it looks good.
Image

Lined it all up and mounted in with the supplied velcro. I also did the body lines, doors, front and rear.
Image

A shot from the rear.
Image

That's all for today, maybe...

really good surprisingly, I just had to add two layers of foam to either side. That's why I wrapped the sides with vinyl too cause you can see the cockpit is a bit wider than normal.

Well, I'd say the driver head sits a little low and appears a bit small to be to scale. But it looks great.

I've got the generic ABC light buckets, but don't think I have anything small enough for side markers. Have any tips for masking an area that small?

He's ridin dirty! Lol. There should be masks on your masking sheet specifically for those. and for the buckets I used a piece of the yokomo 180sx buckets. They were for the reverse lights.

Naw Mike I don't plan on running them, I wanted to be able to see my FMIC a little. I would have had to fade the paint which I am not to good at yet. Like I said the other day I would like to get the rocket bunny kit for it minus the over-fenders. So me doing that now would sorta be a waste of time and effort.

The body line for the font bumper is correct, but it's not supposed to go all the way into the lip as that is a 1 piece item. The front bumper is a 3 piece item, he's missing the line for the side pods, but even on 1:1 cars its hard to make out that it's a separate piece from the fender. The skirts are 2 piece, and rear valence is 3 piece. If there was one thing I had against the ABC 180sx, it's that they didn't do the 180sx the rear valence.

Aside from that minor nit pick, I'm really diggin the body. Street style is the best :D The small details like the front bumper latches are cool.

RC art will be releasing front and rear valence kit for the abc 180. Looks pretty good.
