I need help, I'm stuck on the whole ratio thing and its winding me up!
ok specs
yokomo dib
yokomo 1.8 fcd
kawada 80t spur 38dp
tekin 7.5turn motor
what pinion size should i be running?? last night i ran on a track with a 34t pinion and the motor was getting hot... switched to a 90t spur and it was better but I'm running a 80t for body clearance...
can anyone help???

Re: help with pinion??? (yokomo dib)
Right now, you're running 3.0fdr. Way too high for 7.5t motor. For your motor and 1.8 rear end, you want to use the biggest spur you can fit on the chassis. 80t is way too small. 7.5t motor should be geared around 7~ 7.5fdr. There's a chart in the manual that shows possible spur/pinion combo to reach that ratio.

15 tooth!
im all about making my motor run as cool as possible. probably a preference. but i've had my motors for years. i use a 15 tooth and an 88 tooth spur. 2.0 or 100% cs

Okay I had that problem as well with 13.5! I went with 95t spur 18 combo with the 2.0 set up. Now I'm gonna under drive the front with a 40/14 F and 25/36 R. I seen some guy on youtube with a under driven chassis before with 10 degree castor blocks and it was sliding! Also I'm gonna do the FBD trick with the DIB.

Re: help with pinion??? (yokomo dib)
Get the biggest spur to clear the body, and smallest pinion to reach the spur without filing motor frame. Calculate FDR, test drive, and you'll know what pinion you need

Re: help with pinion??? (yokomo dib)
OP is running 1.8 rear end. 2.0 internal ratio doesnt apply here. There is no black magic about gearing. Every motor turn has an optimal gearing range. Find out and gear your motor accordingly.

Re: help with pinion??? (yokomo dib)
well i forgot to mention that my motor is an 8.5 turn brushless.
i use a 15tooth. its the lowest that is suggested for my motor. it said 15-20. but anything higher than 15 tooth and it gets hot after some time playing

Re: help with pinion??? (yokomo dib)
I use the yokomo 2.0 fcd on my dib.
I currently use a 22T pinion and a 90t spur,but my motor(after a few minutes) is very hot
what pinion size should i be running?and the spur is ok?
